4 Star Petrol Ban - Page 2

[INFO - PAGE 1]

This page shows some FAQ, which ill also explain other alternative fuels and soloutions of running your car into the year 2000.

How do I know if I can switch to Unleaded petrol?

Several things you can do:

  1. Consult your car hand book.
  2. Read Page 1 of this guide.
  3. Get in contact with the AA or RAC and ask their advice.
  4. Or even better, contact your local Vauxhall dealer, who should be more than willing to help.
  5. Ask members from Vauxhall owners clubs, magazines, friends and family, fat bloke down pub (he's always right) etc.

What can I do if I find out that my car can't run on Unleaded fuel?

Do the following:

  1. Use a Lead replacment product (also known as a AWA, or "Anti-Wear Additive") that you have to put in your fuel tank (I know of only one product, REDEX X)
  2. Use LRP (Lead Replacment Petrol) where its available. So far I have never sen this anywhere.
  3. Put a lead pellit in the fuel line. This is designed so it slowly releases the correct amount of lead into the engine.
  4. Get your car modified to accept Unleaded fuel (the best option in the long run).

OK, I'm using this LRP or AWA stuff, can I use leaded petrol if I see it?

Not really, once you use one of the alternatives, it's best not to use Leaded fuel in the future (if Leaded fuel is used in small quantities, it should course no problems. But this is unlikely as 4 star will be hard to find). Aviod mixing the two mediums together, ie fill the tank with LRP and then add some AWA in afterwards.

Will AWA or LRP provide enough protection to my engine?

No additives will provide as much protection as lead, so use these mediums for a short term, not for ever. It's best to get the engine converted sooner rather than later. If you do a lot of travelling, especially on motorways or tow heavy loads, then you really should get your engine modified because of the octane level (ie more efficient).
